Dietary advice for people with urinary diseases
Especially good: Barley, pumpkin seeds, asparagus and onions.
Fruits: Raspberries, watermelon, grapefruit, apples and figs.
Vegetables: White cabbage, pumpkins, potatoes, eggplant, watercress, cucumbers, celery, leek and all vegetables.
Grains: Barley and soy beans.
Herbs and spices: Juniper berries, parsley, thyme, garlic, sage, rosemary, chamomile and dandelion leaves.
Nuts and seeds: Pumpkin seeds and all nuts except for peanuts.
Yogurt is good for cystitis, especially if it contains acidophilus.
Avoid:
- Animal proteins because when it is digested uric and oxalic acids are produced which can form kidney stones.
- Too much sugar and salt.
- Everything containing oxalic acid like coffee, tea, chocolate, rhubarb, peanuts, spinach, beets and strawberries.
- Juices from citrus fruits and vitamin C increase the urines acidity.
