Iceland Moss - 25 g
Iceland Moss (Cetraria islandica)
The mucilage contained in this herb is remedial for the throat and stomach, but not further down the digestive tract since they get digested there. They are therefore good for gastritis, stomach ulcers and sore throats. The bitters in this herb stimulate appetite and digestive glands, making digestion better. The mucilage is good for respiratory ailments. The herb is also antibacterial and works on bacteria contained in both the stomach and the respiratory system. When it’s used for coughs it’s best to remove the bitters by boiling the herb and when the water has come to a boil, pour the water away, put new water in the pot and boil for 2 – 3 minutes more. For stomach uses never boil the herb but let it steep in hot water for 30 minutes, by doing that we only get the mucilage but leave the bitters behind in the herb since they can irritate the stomach in cases of gastritis. If we want both the bitters and the mucilage, boil the herb for 5 minutes. Iceland moss is generally strengthening and is therefore good when people feel under the weather.
